Oliva Serie V Melanio
Melanio is a first name: that of Melanio Oliva, the great-grandfather who planted his first tobacco in Pinar del Río, Cuba, in 1886. By dedicating the top of the Serie V range to him, the Oliva family did nothing by halves. A sun-grown Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and filler packed with Jalapa ligero, all rolled and box-pressed in Estelí. The Figurado in this line was named Cigar of the Year 2014 by Cigar Aficionado, and this Robusto shares its blend.
On lighting, cedar and a clean toasted note take the lead, already with a nice roundness. The second third builds: leather, cocoa, a touch of mild spice that reminds you this is an Oliva. The final third turns up the heat with a frank but never aggressive black pepper. A powerful yet refined cigar, silkier than the classic Serie V, that wins everyone over: connoisseurs recognise the Nicaraguan signature, the curious discover what a great box-pressed cigar has under the hood.

About Oliva
The name Oliva originates from Melanio Oliva, the grandfather of Gilberto Oliva, who is now regarded as the head of this illustrious family. Melanio began growing tobacco in Cuba as early as 1886, a tradition that was devotedly continued by his son Hipolito for many years. Later, Gilberto Senior, father of the current generation and a respected figure in the world of tobacco fairs in the United States, faced the challenge of finding land as fertile as that of Cuba following the family’s exile. After exploring regions such as Panama, the Philippines, Honduras and Mexico, he finally discovered in Nicaragua an exceptional terroir, perfectly suited to his requirements. The cigars produced there reveal deep, earthy flavours, offering a complexity that captivates connoisseurs and leaves an irresistible desire to savour more.
