This is not a selection criterion for Blue Smokers, but it is nevertheless worth noting: this little gem received 96 points out of 100 from Cigar Aficionado in 2014 and was crowned Cigar of the Year. And it is well deserved: if only for its exceptional Figurado Boxed-pressed format, which gives it an undeniable charisma from the very first seconds.

Tasting notes

Aromas of toast, very well balanced with woody notes. The cigar is full-bodied, with a rich smoke and a white, compact wrapper. Well structured and balanced, this is a magnificent cigar, as beautiful as it is delicious, although a tad linear.

Pairing

During a visit to B64 (now Berries in Sion), we enjoyed this cigar with a delicious cocktail with a hint of bitterness and a touch of bubbles.

About Oliva

The name Oliva originates from Melanio Oliva, the grandfather of Gilberto Oliva, who is now regarded as the head of this illustrious family. Melanio began growing tobacco in Cuba as early as 1886, a tradition that was devotedly continued by his son Hipolito for many years. Later, Gilberto Senior, father of the current generation and a respected figure in the world of tobacco fairs in the United States, faced the challenge of finding land as fertile as that of Cuba following the family’s exile. After exploring regions such as Panama, the Philippines, Honduras and Mexico, he finally discovered in Nicaragua an exceptional terroir, perfectly suited to his requirements. The cigars produced there reveal deep, earthy flavours, offering a complexity that captivates connoisseurs and leaves an irresistible desire to savour more.
