Haiti: a little-known producer
Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the island of Hispaniola. Unfortunately, natural disasters and political unrest have long hampered Haiti’s development, even though the country enjoys ideal conditions for growing tobacco. Despite these challenges, a handful of passionate producers are keeping an exceptional artisanal craft alive and crafting cigars of remarkable quality, which are now recognised far beyond the country’s borders.
Tasting menu
Its bouquet is reminiscent of naïve art paintings and immediately transports us into its exotic world. When tasted neat, fantastic chocolate aromas fill the palate. These are followed by delicate, well-rounded woody notes.
Selected in the maduro variety for its roundness and balance, this corona is the ideal size for savouring this exotic experience to the full and at a leisurely pace. The size itself tells the story: this cigar is best enjoyed with patience. The wrapper, which feels slightly sticky on the palate, evokes an exotic kiss with hints of warm sand.
As you smoke it, the flavour profile gradually ‘warms up’, developing woody and toasty notes. The draw, which is fantastic and particularly smooth, perfectly balances the cigar’s robust character.
Once you’ve reached the three-quarter mark, a brief pause allows you to continue the tasting smoothly and prevents any excessive bitterness from developing. The further you go, the more the earthy and wild notes come to the fore, lending depth and character to the whole.

The first inhabitants of Hispaniola, the Taínos, were already growing tobacco long before the arrival of the Europeans. The BOHEKIO brand was named in honour of a Taíno chief of the same name.

Despite those obstacles, a few dedicated producers keep an exceptional artisanal know-how alive, crafting cigars of remarkable quality that are now recognised well beyond the country’s borders.
A “bohemian” name
The first inhabitants of Hispaniola, the Taíno, were already growing tobacco long before the Europeans arrived. As a tribute to that ancestral heritage, the three founders named their cigar brand BOHEKIO, after a Taíno chief.
The Taíno are also credited with the origin of the word “tobacco” and with the invention of the hammock. Christopher Columbus discovered this cultural legacy when he landed on Hispaniola in 1492, the first contact between Europe and the peoples of the Caribbean.
Today, BOHEKIO carries on that centuries-old tradition, honouring the historical roots of Haitian tobacco and the craftsmanship of a land that belongs to the cigar’s birthplace.
