Reset your tasting meter to zero and embark on the Mexican cigar experience.

From our point of view, it's an experience in its own right because it combines aromas that are not often found in cigar tasting. A strong saltiness that dries out the mouth slightly and instantly makes you want to go back for more.

The smoke is soft and warm, with a reassuring quality.

The first third is salty and creamy. Halfway between flame-grilled and buttered popcorn. For fans of cooking, the sensations of the maillard reactions are there.

On the downside, the ash is rather crumbly. This is easily forgiven, as the experience of tasting this cigar is quite extraordinary.

In the final third, the cigar develops pleasant notes of smoked wood.

The 1880 series, a project dear to Alejandro's heart, takes its name from the year in which Tabacalera Casa Turrent was founded, paying tribute to the family's tradition and history in the tobacco industry, which goes back more than 140 years. Each blend in this range, from the mildest to the spiciest, is made from wrapper leaves that have been matured for at least 5 years. The filler is made from tobacco that has been stored for 10 to 12 years, adding an extra dimension of richness and complexity to each cigar.

The farm, based in San André, is the largest in Mexico, with 350 hectares dedicated to growing tobacco. Renowned for years for its T-Amo and Revolution brands, the son has taken over the reins, handling blending, marketing and sales.

Father and son maintain a constant dialogue and oversee the tobacco in the warehouse and factory. Their family is not only Mexico's leading tobacco grower, but also the country's largest exporter of raw tobacco. To perfect the seeds, Alberto and Alejandro benefit from the expertise of Eumelio Espino, a Cuban seed specialist. Together, they conducted research on Turrent's fields and developed a new Cuban variety of seed to produce oily, velvety, fine capes.

Alejandro is also experimenting with fermentation using wooden crates lined with cedar, allowing the already fermented tobacco to continue to evolve in a very tropical artificial environment. The young entrepreneur is trying out new approaches, improving and supervising every stage of production.

After ceasing production of the T-Amo and Revolution brands, Alejandro launched the new Casa Turrent 1901 line, which was very well received by the critics.
