Tatuaje Black Label Petit Robusto

Sober and effective, the Tatuaje Black Label Petit Robusto charms with its discreet appearance. Its short size of 4 x 50 is wrapped in a well-tightened oily-reflective wrapper, crossed by fine veins noticeable without excess. A simple thin band, placed at the head, gives it a strict and minimalist look, perfectly in line with its identity. The design, simple and unadorned, already sets the tone: that of a cigar that focuses on substance rather than show.

Tasting Notes

Unlit, the draw is easy, almost too light. The aromas perceived on the nose evoke wood and a touch of incense, promising the start of a promising experience. From the lighting, the start is off to a flying start: a true wave of spices floods the mouth. The draw, initially perceived as too loose, quickly tightens. Gradually, the spicy intensity softens and gives way to a rounder and more balanced woody palette. The smoke, light gray and rather dense, forms opaque swirls that give the cigar a rebellious and confident side. The ash, meanwhile, proves crumbly: holding two centimeters in one piece is already a small feat.

In the second third, the robusto takes an interesting turn. The spices slowly retreat, giving free rein to a new, softer aromatic profile, where notes of nuts stand out. The profile rounds out and gains suppleness, making the tasting more relaxed and accessible, enhanced by a cocoa background.

Known for their powerful blends, Pepin and Jaime Garcia deliver here a fine introduction to their universe. This small robusto keeps its promises and offers a satisfying experience over about forty minutes. The spicy blend, enriched with cocoa highlights, transports the smoker to the fertile lands of Nicaragua, from which it draws all its power and depth of aromas.

Pairing

A small cigar that fears nothing. At coffee time (rather early afternoon than early morning), pair it with a double espresso, nice and strong. At the end of the day, it will also pair unwaveringly with a peaty whisky.
