La Aurora Dominican DNA Toro
Produced in the Dominican Republic with tobacco from the USA, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic for the filler, wrapped in Cameroon leaf and finally draped with a Dominican wrapper.
This cigar is produced using a traditional Dominican method that is rarely used today.
Once the tobacco plant has reached maturity, the lower leaves are cut away, leaving only the ligero (the top leaves that have received the most sunlight during growth).
Once harvested, the leaves are hung in drying barns for two weeks. At this point, they are soft enough to be stripped of their veins.
The leaves are then assembled into bundles weighing 13-14 kg and rolled in a large palm leaf. The drying process then begins and lasts for 2 to 3 weeks, repeated at least 5 times.
The palm leaves allow the tobacco to sweat naturally without heating.
Mixed with the other leaves in the filler, this "andullo" tobacco adds body to the taste and releases earthy and woody notes.
The cigar evolves nicely throughout the tasting. There are slightly spicy flavours that add contrast to the powerful notes of wood, earth and leather.
In the second half of the cigar, it softens and sweet notes of caramel appear.
The finish is marked by notes of sweet cocoa, thanks to the special drying process that has been used for Dominican pipe tobacco for over 500 years.

Momentum
A cigar that deserves to be savoured slowly, developing in strength while remaining very smooth. We enjoyed it in the afternoon, in very good company in a chalet in Zinal, in the cool air, far from the heatwave.

The cigar anecdote
The traditional Dominican method used to dry leaves is called "andullo". It allows the tobacco to be dried without heating it.
