E. P. Carrillo Pledge Purple (limited edition)
In 2020, the Pledge Prequel was crowned Cigar of the Year. Five years on, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo is celebrating the series’ anniversary with the Pledge Purple: the same Connecticut Havana wrapper, grown by Dunn & Foster in the United States and sourced from the original harvest, but set aside and aged for nearly a decade. A commemorative edition limited to 3,500 boxes of 10.
Beneath this dark, rich wrapper lie a Mexican binder from San Andrés and a Nicaraguan filler from Estelí, Condega and Ometepe. The whole cigar is rolled in the Dominican Republic as a 54-ring gauge toro, adorned with a striking purple and gold band that certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.

Tasting menu
Upon lighting, dark chocolate, espresso and dark wood set the tone, quickly joined by black pepper and a subtle natural sweetness. The cigar gains in intensity as it progresses through the thirds, with leather and a distinctly spicy character. Full-bodied, certainly, with a strong character: a well-tamped espresso will hold its own against it.
