Diamond Crown Julius Caesar Perfecto

The Julius Caesar Perfecto is a tribute to Julius Caesar Newman, founder of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company in 1895. This cigar, manufactured in the Dominican Republic, features an Ecuadorian Havana Seed wrapper, a Dominican binder and a filler blend of Caribbean and Central American tobaccos, aged for five years.

Tasting notes

Unlit, the aromas are subtle, with a faint woody note. Upon lighting, the draw is smooth, revealing initial woody notes accompanied by a hint of mild spice, particularly white pepper. The smoke is light and pleasant.

The burn is immediately even and the draw is excellent. A clean cut is recommended to fully release the cigar’s aromas.
Looking at the band, one notices two dates in Roman numerals: “MDCCCLXXV” (1875), the year of Julius Caesar Newman’s birth, and “MMX” (2010), the year this line was launched to celebrate the company’s 115th anniversary. Furthermore, three small gold coins adorn either side of Caesar’s portrait on the band, symbolising the wealth and prestige associated with the Roman emperor.

As the second third begins, a subtle bitterness emerges, lending a pleasant roundness to the taste. The spices become slightly more pronounced, enriching the flavour profile. The smokiness intensifies, creating a fuller mouthfeel.

Then, thanks to the Perfecto format, the final third arrives quickly, with increased warmth. The almond notes intensify, whilst the spices fade, giving way to nougat flavours against a backdrop of delicate bitterness.

After around 45 minutes, the tasting experience concludes with a smooth, indulgent finish, featuring lingering notes of almond and nougat, balanced by a hint of bitterness.
