My Father Cigars La Gran Oferta
Visually, this is a very successful cigar. Wrapped in a magnificent, supple, ochre-tinted Colorado wrapper, it proudly sports a colourful double band. Its head, closed by a pigtail, is a great success and will remain perfectly in place when cut.
Tasting note
No more dwelling on the ring, let's get down to the nitty-gritty and turn up the heat on this offering from the Garcia family.
Raw, we immediately detect black pepper, chocolate and a penchant for warm, damp earth notes. Already pleasant and amiable, this cigar promises a rich and tasty tasting experience.
On the first whiff, beautiful notes of espresso stand out. Followed by a good dose of creamy caramel sweetness.
The smoke is particularly full for a lancero and the draw offers a slight resistance. The multi-generational expertise of the family, whose founder Jose 'Pepin' Garcia began rolling cigars at the age of eleven, is clearly evident here.
The second third doesn't change much, the notes remaining soft and oscillating between a light white pepper and roasted coffee notes. The smoke is pleasantly round and voluptuous.
The time comes to remove the large double ring. We take one last look at the ash before depositing it. Its envelope is fluffy and light, while its centre remains compact. The burn line is clear and throughout our experience, no touch-ups were necessary.
The finish of 'My Father Cigars La Gran Oferta' is just like the rest. Smooth and round, with a hint of nuts. If you smoke it gently, you'll have no trouble maintaining a pleasant temperature, allowing you to enjoy it right down to the core.
Pairing
A coffee or black tea is the perfect accompaniment to this cigar. Add a square of chocolate for extra indulgence and you'll be in for a treat.
If you feel like pairing it with an alcoholic beverage, choose an Armagnac rather than a whisky, which might be too strong for the cigar.
