Avo Uvezian, born in Beirut in the 1920s to music-loving parents, began his career as a musician at a very young age. He travelled as far as New York to play in various bands and to study piano and musical composition.
It was in 1983, whilst travelling to Switzerland for his daughter’s christening, that Avo enjoyed a Cuban cigar to round off his meal. Taken aback by the price, he allowed himself to be persuaded by his friends that he should produce his own cigars.
Avo then set off on a journey to the Dominican Republic in search of a factory that would suit him. It was two years later that he met Hendrik Kelner, and after sampling a few cigars, their collaboration could finally begin.
Nearly ten years later, Davidoff acquired the distribution rights to the brand.
