Eladio Díaz La Diana Vencosme
The Eladio Díaz La Diana Vencosme (in toro format) is a deeply personal creation, conceived as a tribute to the early days of the Dominican master blender. Behind this line lies the story of Francisco Biloria Vencosme, known as ‘Don Pacho’, Eladio Díaz’s first mentor. It was in his small factory, La Diana, that Eladio Díaz first discovered the world of tobacco at the age of just seven. A formative period that would shape his entire career and which this cigar now celebrates.
Visually, the Vencosme captivates with a warm brown wrapper featuring ochre highlights, criss-crossed with slightly pronounced veins that give it depth. Despite these irregularities, the cigar remains supple and well-constructed to the touch, inspiring confidence even before lighting.
When cold, it releases rich aromas of nuts, nutmeg and cedar, promising a tasting experience that is both rich and balanced.
It lights easily, the draw is naturally smooth, and the first few puffs immediately produce a generous volume of smoke accompanied by very light grey ash that is compact and stable. The flavour profile quickly settles into woody and slightly earthy notes, balanced by a subtle sweetness.
Very quickly, the smoke becomes rounder, with a creamy texture and an elegant hint of spice, without being overpowering.
What is striking is its ability to deliver a certain strength whilst retaining a real finesse. This is far from a harsh cigar: the smoothness of the Dominican tobacco comes into its own, underpinned by the earthier, more structuring character of the Mexican blend. The Ecuadorian wrapper, meanwhile, ensures an even burn and a lovely aromatic profile.
As the cigar is smoked, its flavour develops with restraint. The aromas become slightly spicier and peppery, without ever becoming overpowering. The overall profile remains consistent and composed, inviting a slow, almost contemplative smoking experience. The finish consistently maintains this impression, without any abrupt changes or an excessive surge in intensity.
