Lighter than its Robusto counterpart, it gradually reveals its character. The flavour builds in the middle of the smoking experience, where quite pronounced peppery notes emerge, adding depth without disrupting the overall balance. The draw is fairly open, which encourages a generous smoke and a smooth smoking experience.

The Tale of the Bucanera

The scorching sun beat down on the deserted beach as La Bucanera, the feared queen of the Caribbean, was washed ashore. Her ship, the Sturmvogel, had sunk in a raging storm, leaving her alone in a wild land, as hostile as it was fascinating.

Sword in hand, she fought her way through the dense jungle, guided by her instincts and her will to survive. It was then that she came across lush tobacco plants. She quickly set about cultivating them, seeing in those leaves far more than just a means of subsistence: an opportunity to rebuild her fortune and, perhaps, one day reunite her scattered crew.

Using the wreckage of her ship, she set up a camp. At night, by the light of the fire, she whispered tales of freedom, hidden treasures and a future to be reclaimed.

The island became her refuge — a place where she could build a community based on solidarity, tobacco and shared dreams. La Bucanera knew it: this was only the beginning — her greatest adventures were yet to be written.

Pairing

We highly recommend pairing it with a barrel-aged Viognier from the Maurice Neyroud winery, with its notes of apricot and peach, which will make for a truly indulgent tasting experience.

A few words about the wine

This small-berried grape variety originates from the Rhône Valley, particularly the hillsides of Condrieu. Capricious and demanding, Viognier is planted in clay-limestone soil and yields very limited quantities. To enhance its aromatic intensity, the harvest was macerated for a few hours before pressing, and this wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation. This Viognier was aged in 3–4-year-old barrels and matured on its fine lees to preserve its distinctive character. A complex, deep wine with aromas of apricot and peach, as well as delicate notes of violet, combining softness and precision.
